Persephone & Hades (22x18) canvas Hades was the brother of Zeus and the god of the underworld. Persephone was the daughter of Demeter, the Goddess of nature. While Persephone was in the underworld Demeter grew sad and all the crops and harvest died. I know the ancient Greeks used the story of Hades and Persephone as an Etiologic myth to explain the seasons but like an great story this one deals has multiple dimensions. The myth says that Persephone was very unhappy, but after much time, she came to love the cold-blooded Hades and lived happily with him. She grew to dislike the time she would have to leave the underworld. This painting is a depiction of them dancing on the last night they're together. She moves freely while Hades holds a hour glass showcasing the time they have together is limited and a scythe, because scythes are metal.
