The miraculous icon of Panagia Pantanassa is located in the Katholikon of the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos. The portable icon of the 17th century has performed countless miracles over the centuries. According to Elder Joseph of Vatopedi, one day a young man from Cyprus entered the temple to worship the icon.

The Elder saw the face of the Virgin suddenly shining and an invisible force threw the young man down. Later, he confessed with tears to the monks that he was indulging in magic. With the miraculous intervention of the Virgin of Pantanassa, the young man became a faithful man. The grace of the Virgin Mary has helped many believers to change their lives but also deals to be cured of various diseases that afflicted them such as cancer.

The memory of Virgin Mary Pantanassa is celebrated every year on September 24 in the sanctuary of the Vatopedi Monastery in Porto Lagos.
