This is a romantic Venetian bead necklace and earring set using vintage handmade Murano glass, Sommerso pattern, combined with unusual Chinese handcarved pink quartz beads. The patterned Venetian pendant and earrings were made on the Murano Island outside Venice, most likely during the deals 1940s. Venetians have been been the premier glass bead makers for hundreds of years and for much of that time, the processes they used were secret. Sommerso is a unique glass making process in which a primary layer is overlaid with color, then a third layer of small flecks of color, including gold, silver or copper foil is applied, then a final clear layer finishes them off. It's a delicate process and these beads are authentic Sommerso, not newer reproductions mass produced in China. The rose quartz beads are significant also. Rose pink was a color favored by the last empress of China so it was popular during that timeframe. Rose quartz is a stone of universal love, enhancing all forms of love.
