24INVREF Up for sale is this rare original 1862 Civil War medical exemption letter from Schoharie county, NY. The letter was written by Abraham Pickel with the claim that he is unable to fight in the war due to his age. The letter measures approximately 9 3/4 inches by 7 5/8 inches. The interesting part of the document is the Justice of the Peace, Daniel D Dodge who signed off of the exemption request. Following his public service career, he became a railroad man. He was the late 1960's President of the New York Middleburgh and Schoharie Railroad Company. All in all a really interesting and rare deals piece of Americana and Civil War & Railroad history.
