deals This decorative box is made from spalted hackberry and paduak. The front, back and top are spalted hackberry, the sides are paduak, and the handle is a small bone knob from Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, VA. The box is constructed using dovetail joints. Paduak is an exotic hardwood from central and tropical west Africa. Spalted hackberry is a domestic hardwood from eastern North America. Spalted hackberry is created using an aging process after the standard hackberry lumber has been harvested, resulting in the the various discolorations, blue tinting, and black lines. This is a natural process that creates completely unique boards. Every board that is spalted, no matter the species, is one of a kind.

The box has been finished with a natural, non-toxic, oil and wax finish. A felt bottom is on the inside bottom of the box.
