about the painting: This piece was initially inspired by a Rogier van der Weyden portrait of Francesco d'Este, which was created in the 1400's. It is current in possession by the MET. When first I saw the painting, I was intrigued by the peculiar man who was holding a ring with his frail, bony fingers. In my modern take of this painting, I wanted to make him a little bit gay, so I chose to have him smoking a cigarette in a teal robe. Now he is this fabulous, mysterious man who will always arouse my curiosity.

This original portrait was deals created with acrylic paint on canvas panel. It is finished with a archival grade satin varnish, to protect the painting from dust, dirt, and UV rays. The painting is signed on the front side.
